- It is very important to Arnold Jewelers that you are completely satisfied. With this in mind, please read over the following terms and conditions,
indicating that you "accept" at the bottom of this page.
You will then receive a necessary form that you can print and
fill out.
- Minimum Order To Sell By Mail:
- Each customer selling silver by mail to Arnold Jewelers shall be required to sell a minimum of 10 ounces of silver. This minimum refers to the actual silver content, and not internal weighted material. For example, a small, weighted
seven (7) ounce candlestick holder very often contains only 3/4
to 1 Troy ounce (ozt) of silver.
-
- No Plated Silver:
-
- We do not buy silver-plated items stamped with the words "Silverplate, E.P.N.S.(Electroplated Nickel Silver), E.P.(Electroplated), E.P.S.(Electroplated Silver), Quadrupleplate, Tripleplate, Rogers Brothers 1847, Nickel Silver, Silver Soldered, E.P.C. (Electroplate On Copper), Silver Plate On Copper, Stainless N. S., Stainless Nickel, Stainless Nickel Silver, E.P.W.M.(Electroplate On White Metal), E.P.B.M. (Electroplated Britannia Metal), Electroplated, Trebleplate, Hard Soldered, Triple Deposit.
- Please do not send us these items, as we will not be able to ship them back to you. All silver-plated and non-silver items will, unfortunately, be disposed of. We cannot undergo the expense of re-boxing these items and shipping them back to you. For this, we apologize in advance.
- Types Of Silver We Buy:
- Pure Silver: Stamped .999, is considered "pure" silver. Unless you are selling a silver bullion, a silver Atocha bar, silver shots, rounds, etc., you probably won't be selling pure silver.
-
- Sterling Silver: We buy more of this than any other type. A sterling silver item will usually be stamped with either ".925", or the words "sterling", or "sterling silver" on the bottom of each piece. The .925 stamping indicates that the item contains 92.5% actual silver, and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Sorry, but we cannot pay you for the residual copper, or other metals, since we make no money off it, ourselves.
-
- .9584 (English Britannia) , .900 ( coin silver or "pure coin"), 950, standard silver, 84 (Russia), 835, .800 (Germany)
-
- Items bearing the above stamp are still valuable and sellable, but contain progressively lesser and lesser amounts of silver in them, when reading the list from left to right. Less silver obviously means it's worth less, if one was valuing an item for its silver value, alone. As you can see from the examples above, .900 (indicates 90% silver), .800 (indicates 80% silver), etc. We are happy to buy grades of silver less than .925 (sterling silver). Our frequently asked questions page contains more information on this, that may be helpful in identifying your silver. In short, if you are unsure "what" it is, please call us before mailing it.
- Weighted Silver Processing Damage:
- Arnold Jewelers cannot be help responsible for damage caused to silver goods during processing. Some silver covered items, weighted silver or holloware in particular, must be broken apart to determine its actual silver content. To do this, it is necessary to first remove the outer sterling silver foil from the non-silver (weighted) core. In the process, the pieces aesthetic appeal is unfortunately, destroyed. Such holloware items often include knife handles (knife blades are usually stainless), candle holders, candelabras, salt and pepper shakers, and other pieces.
-
- Unless we can resell a weighted piece, we have to break it apart so that the silver parts can be shipped to the refinery. Weighted silver had been around since the mid 1800's, designed to make fine silver available at a lower cost. A seam in a silver item is a good sign that it is weighted. Weighted silver
should separate at the seams with a pliers or small screwdriver. A solid silver item will have no seam. If you are
unsure whether you have solid or weighted silver, and would like our opinion, please send close-up pictures to:
